Bangladesh has earned its first medal at the ongoing Asian Beach Games in Sanya, a famous tourist city in China. The achievement came in the Kabaddi discipline, where the Bangladesh women’s team officially secured the bronze medal after a strong tournament campaign on Monday.As the athletes stood on the podium wearing the red-and-green jersey, an emotional atmosphere was created during the medal ceremony. India won the gold medal in women’s kabaddi, while Sri Lanka claimed silver.Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation General Secretary SM Newaz Sohan was present at the medal ceremony and encouraged the players, calling the achievement a major milestone for Bangladesh kabaddi.Throughout the tournament, the Bangladesh women’s kabaddi team showed disciplined and aggressive performance. Although they lost to strong India in the semifinal, their fighting spirit throughout the competition earned widespread praise.SM Newaz Sohan said, “Our girls have upheld the pride of the country on foreign soil. This bronze medal is not just a medal; it is the result of hard work and proper planning.”He added that the current committee aimed to bring back medals, and the team’s success at the Asian Beach Games proved their effort. He also mentioned that this is Bangladesh’s first bronze in beach kabaddi after 14 years.In the group stage, Bangladesh defeated Thailand and Chinese Taipei by large margins to reach the semifinals. However, they lost their final group match against Nepal in a closely fought game (38–36). As a result, they faced India in the semifinal, where they lost 50–31.Despite the defeat, reaching the semifinals ensured Bangladesh’s bronze medal. The team finished third in the overall ranking, marking a historic achievement for Bangladesh women’s kabaddi.
