Dhaka: Customers have expressed growing dissatisfaction over the after-sales service, technician fees, and alleged overcharging by dealers of HAMKO, one of Bangladesh’s leading battery manufacturers. Complaints suggest that users of IPS and automotive batteries are facing significant difficulties when seeking maintenance and warranty services.According to customer allegations, HAMKO representatives and technicians often demand service and transportation charges ranging from Tk 300 to Tk 500 or more, even when customers are located within the same neighborhood or only a short distance away.Customers also claim that despite receiving 18 to 36 months of warranty coverage, they are still required to pay additional fees whenever technical issues arise or distilled water refills are needed, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the company’s warranty policy.Another allegation involves the handling of used batteries. Some customers claim that old batteries collected by wholesalers and retailers are allegedly refurbished and reintroduced into the market, creating concerns about product quality and consumer safety. In addition, customers have alleged that some HAMKO dealers and service centers in areas including Paltan, Bijoynagar, Kakrail, and Banglabazar, as well as in other parts of the country, are charging prices above the company’s listed rates.Consumers have urged HAMKO authorities to introduce clear and transparent service guidelines to reduce customer inconvenience. They also called for free or low-cost technician visits and replacement services within the same locality, noting that transporting heavy IPS batteries to service centers is difficult for many users.Note: The allegations mentioned in this report reflect customers’ claims. An official response from HAMKO was not available at the time of publication.
