Residents of Uttara in the capital have expressed concerns over what they describe as a noticeable increase in the presence of Chinese nationals in the area over the past one and a half years. Their movement in residential neighborhoods and public spaces, along with frequent video recording activities, has sparked curiosity and unease among locals.According to local sources, where only a handful of Chinese nationals were previously seen, their number has now reportedly grown significantly. Many have been observed using smartphones and gimbals to record videos in various parts of the area.Residents allege that some Chinese nationals have been filming people’s daily activities, residential buildings, and surrounding environments. However, the exact purpose of these recordings remains unclear.During an inquiry into the matter, it was also reported that a Chinese national attempted to obtain the phone number of an individual who was documenting the situation. Meanwhile, officials from Uttara West Police Station stated that no formal written complaint regarding the issue has been filed so far.A section of local residents has questioned whether the recordings are merely intended for social media content creation or if there could be other motives behind the activities. They believe the matter warrants further examination.Concerned observers have suggested that, in the interest of public safety and privacy, the relevant authorities may consider monitoring and verifying the situation.
