Serious allegations of irregularities have surfaced over the renovation of the RAJUK Chairman’s official residence, commonly known as the “Chairman’s Bungalow,” in Gulshan. The project has come under scrutiny for alleged procedural violations, unexplained cost escalation, and irregular tender practices.According to investigation sources, the initial estimated cost of the renovation was Tk 30 lakh. However, the final expenditure reportedly surged to Tk 2.16 crore, raising questions over financial management and approval procedures.The inquiry committee has pointed fingers at RAJUK Chief Town Planner Mostak Ahmed and supervising engineer Rahat Muslemin for their alleged involvement in the irregular process.Reports suggest that the renovation work began in March 2025 without an open tender process. Shockingly, nearly 80% of the work was completed before a formal tender was floated in January, which investigators have termed a “clear violation of procurement rules.”Officials say such procedures undermine transparency and raise concerns over misuse of public funds in government projects. The investigation report describes the process as inconsistent with standard procurement regulations and labels the tender process as questionable.The committee has recommended further review and possible departmental action against the officials involved. Authorities are expected to take final decisions after reviewing the investigation findings.
