In a significant development, both the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dhaka are now women, highlighting the increasing presence of female leadership in key administrative and law enforcement positions.Earlier on 22 April, Farida Khanam, a deputy secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, was appointed as the first female Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka.At the same time, Shamima Parveen—wife of Khulna-3 MP and Whip Rakibul Islam Bakul—is serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Dhaka. This marks a rare instance where both top administrative and policing roles in the capital are held by women.Additionally, the government has transferred 11 other officials of the Bangladesh Police, including those holding the ranks of Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Superintendent of Police (SP), as part of a broader reshuffle.This move is being seen as a positive step toward greater inclusion of women in high-level leadership roles within the country’s governance and security sectors.
